Ishida Atsuko was born August 9, 1963 in Fukuyama, Hiroshima. She's worked as an animator, character designer, illustrator, and mangaka—and also did illustration work for adult games under the pen name Ijuuin Mariko.
Her path into animation started almost by accident. As a first-year high school student, she spotted a cover of Animage magazine illustrated by Yasuhiko Yoshikazu and was immediately hooked. That moment made her decide to pursue animation professionally. She joined Kaname Productions in January 1983, where she absorbed techniques from heavy hitters like Kanada Yoshinori and Inomata Mutsumi. When Kaname Pro folded in 1988, she went freelance.
Later, she co-founded Studio G-1 Neo with her ex-husband Oobari Masami. Around 2000, she shifted focus toward manga writing, which became her main work going forward.
