Suzue was born in Nishinomiya and grew up in Osaka, where she attended Osaka Seikei Girl's High School. She started her manga career in 1967 and went on to become a decorated figure in the industry. Her breakthrough came with the horror short "Youkihiden," which earned her the Kodansha Manga Prize in 1982. She later won the Japan Mangaka Association's Excellent Prize in 1995 for "Garasu no Kamen," one of her most celebrated works.
