Yoshikawa Youichirou spent most of the late '80s and early '90s as part of Yapoos, the band that kept him busy from 1985 to 1993 with six album releases, music videos, and constant touring across Japan.
Beyond the band, he's done substantial work in ambient music and commercial composition, scoring everything from NHK documentaries like "the Miracle Planet" and "News 10" to TV spots. He's also produced and collaborated on music for artists including Princess Princess, Agnes Chan, and Saito Yuki.
His longest creative partnership has been with Sankai Juku, where he's worked on compositions and sound design alongside Takashi Kako and YAS-KAZ since the early '80s. He moved into archival work in 2006, handling the DVD production for Sankai Juku's performances.
In 2005, he took on a special appointment as professor at Kurashiki Sakuyo University's Music Design Department. One of his Sankai Juku pieces had its world premiere scheduled for May 2008 at Theatre de la Ville in Paris.
