Shihoko grew up immersed in music. She started classical piano lessons at six and stuck with it for over a decade, eventually picking up singing around age 12 after getting into 70s and 90s soul music. Once she hit college, she joined a band and really committed to developing as a musician. In 2002 she attended Soul Bird Musical School to study gospel, then formalized her vocal training the following year under vocal coach Mineko Yamashita.
