Born in Tokyo, Kazuyoshi Katayama is a Japanese writer and scenarist who's become something of a cult figure for his work on Serial Experiments Lain and Texhnolyze. He also created Ultraman Gaia, which tends to surprise people who only know him from his darker anime work.
Lovecraft's influence runs deep in Katayama's writing—he's a serious Cthulhu Mythos fan, and that cosmic horror sensibility bleeds into most of his projects. Of everything he's written, he's singled out Shinreigari: Ghost Hound as his personal favorite to work on.
He's the older brother of director Kazuya Konaka, who works in both anime and live-action.
