Maruta Mari grew up around the arts—her father designs stages and her mother's an actress—which pretty much set the tone for her creative interests from an early age. She's been into paintings and manga since she was a kid, and that passion followed her through junior college where she studied art and got involved with the campus manga club.
While she's known for voice acting, Mari's also made a name for herself as a jazz singer. She's part of Wild Strawberry, a vocal unit she formed with fellow seiyuu Inoue Kikuko and pianist Ogasawara Junko. In 2013, she married someone she'd been dating for a decade.
