Synopsis

Ippo Makunouchi finally made it—he's the new Japanese featherweight champion. Life's been good since his title win. His friends and coach won't stop cheering him on, and Kumi Mashiba actually seems to like spending time with him now. Everything's falling into place, except for one problem: his first title defense is shaping up to be a nightmare. His challenger is Kazuki Sanada, a doctor who works at the same hospital as Kumi. Sanada's not just tough—he's calculated. He uses his medical knowledge to exploit weaknesses in the ring, making him a genuinely dangerous fighter. But what's really intimidating is that he's got the hospital's nurses backing him up. So Ippo's got his hands full. He needs to keep his belt, prove he's worthy of being champion, and somehow win over the girl he's after. All while facing someone who knows exactly how to break him down.
