Himemiko is a catfish who ascended to become a swamp deity, now ruling over an underwater palace where she's attended by countless fish servants. She's best known for being surprisingly perceptive despite her quiet nature—she's one of the few characters who figures out that Nanami has feelings for Tomoe without being told.
Ten years back, Himemiko fell for a human boy, and she enlists Nanami's help to reunite with him. In return for the favor, Nanami gets to borrow one of Himemiko's gorgeous kimonos when she visits the palace, which helps her look her best around Tomoe.
Himemiko rarely speaks much, but fans often note how observant she is. Her appearance is pretty striking—originally she had that full catfish look with bulging eyes and a completely fishlike face (no nose, very aquatic). Once Nanami gives her a proper makeover though, Himemiko shifts to a more casual human form so she can actually show up and see the boy without freaking him out.
