His role varies considerably across the franchise. He's best known for his appearances in Jewelpet Twinkle, where he serves as an apprentice to the Fountain Dragon. His friendship with Leon becomes a turning point for the latter, teaching him about teamwork and ultimately earning Leon his final Jewel Stone. In Jewelpet Kira Deco, Kohaku takes on a more antagonistic edge as part of Decoranain's Shitennou, using his undeniable cuteness to manipulate people and turn them against each other—a pretty clever tactic, honestly.
During Jewelpet Happiness, he's caught up in his own coming-of-age arc, desperately wanting to seem as cool as Kousuke and his crew to impress what he thinks is a beautiful girl. The punchline? It's actually Apel with his hair down. Despite the misunderstanding, Kohaku ends up forming a Magic Jewel with Kousuke anyway. In the original Jewelpet, he's connected to the Phantom Herb Thieves through his partnership with Aojisho, though he's clearly not part of their villainous activities himself. Lady Jewelpet sees him serving a more mundane role as one of several dogs used to test the Petit Ladies' dog-walking abilities, where he gets paired with Lillian—Luea figured he had an aristocratic bearing that suited her style.
