Haseo starts out as a total newbie in .hack//Roots, logging into The World R:2 as an outsider who struggles with people both online and off. He gets PKed almost immediately, but Ovan—the guild master of Twilight Brigade—steps in and saves him. That rescue sparks Haseo's obsession with learning more about Ovan, so he joins the guild.
Things go downhill when Ovan vanishes for weeks and the guild falls apart. Worse, Tri-Edge shows up and PKs Shino, and that moment basically breaks Haseo. He becomes fixated on saving her, pushing himself harder and harder until he ventures into the Forest of Pain, a dangerous Lost Ground. There he encounters an AI named Harald, and the confrontation transforms his entire character.
By level 133, decked out in crazy powerful gear, Haseo becomes the Terror of Death—a PKK (Player Killer Killer) who hunts other PKs relentlessly. He doesn't care about anything except Shino; he just tortures PKers for information about Tri-Edge and kills them when they come up empty. The name sticks because that's genuinely what he becomes to other players.
When Ovan resurfaces, he tips Haseo off that Tri-Edge will appear at the Hidden Forbidden Holy Ground. Haseo rushes to confront him but gets Data-Drained hard—he wakes up as a level 1 character with nothing.
There's an interesting fan theory floating around that Haseo might actually be the same person as Sora's player from .hack//Sign, given they share the real name Ryou Misaki, are roughly the same age, and both connect to Skeith somehow. Nothing's ever been officially confirmed though.
