Gintoki is a samurai trying to survive in an era where samurai don't really have a place anymore—and to make matters worse, aliens have invaded. He runs an odd jobs business with two young partners, Kagura and Shinpachi, taking whatever work comes their way to pay rent.
Back during the Joui war, he earned the fearsome nickname "White Devil" (Shiroyasha) thanks to his distinctive silver hair, white battle clothes, and genuinely terrifying swordsmanship. He became legendary among his allies and notorious among enemies, though those days are long behind him.
His silver hair is basically his villain origin story—he genuinely blames it for his total lack of romantic success. He's got an intense crush on Ketsuno, a weather girl he saw on TV, and it's actually the only thing that consistently makes him blush (well, that and getting caught shopping by Tsukuyo). Despite various women showing interest in him, he either ignores them or treats them like a nuisance.
Gintoki has two things he actually cares about: sweets and manga. He's obsessed with both. You'll find him chasing down the latest Weekly Shounen Jump with borderline reckless desperation, dreaming of having cool abilities like Bankai or other Jump hero powers. His sweet tooth is equally serious—parfaits, ice cream, cakes, you name it.
He might seem like a careless goofball, but underneath all that he's genuinely committed to the old bushido code. He'll put himself on the line to help friends, strangers, or even aliens if he thinks it's the right thing to do. That said, he's lost too many people during the war to embrace violence casually anymore. Despite being one of the most skilled fighters around, he avoids unnecessary bloodshed whenever possible.
