Mai is a brilliant scientist who serves as Emperor Pilaf's top assistant alongside Shu. While Pilaf and Shu mostly exist for comic relief, Mai is genuinely competent and intelligent—though she somehow always manages to botch whatever mission she's given. She's a main character through the early Dragon Ball sagas, appearing prominently in the Emperor Pilaf, Red Ribbon Army, Fortuneteller Baba, King Piccolo, and Piccolo Junior arcs. She makes a brief comeback in Dragon Ball GT for a couple of episodes, though noticeably aged up by then.
