Son of Doyke, the former guard chief of Rulid Village, Jink followed his father into the guard ranks. As the firstborn, he was naturally set on this path—assigned as a guard apprentice in the spring after turning 10, and eventually taking over as captain.
What people remember most about young Jink, though, is his bullying streak. He had it out for Eugeo, partly because Eugeo was always hanging around Alice, who Jink liked. The pranks ranged from petty (hiding shoes, stuffing bugs in meal bags) to straight-up taunting. He ran with a gang back then and seemed to enjoy making Eugeo's life difficult.
His family had a reputation around the village—skilled at their work, sure, but also pretty insufferable. Their attitude rubbed people the wrong way, even if their competence was undeniable.
