Hatori is the Zodiac's dragon and serves as the Souma clan's personal physician—a serious guy who rarely cracks jokes. He's responsible for wiping the memories of anyone who learns about the clan's curse, though whether that's actual hypnosis or something more supernatural remains unclear. His curse transforms him into a seahorse instead of a proper dragon, which he finds deeply embarrassing. In Japanese, the seahorse's name literally means "baby dragon," which is the Chinese origin of the association, but that doesn't make him feel any better about it. He's described the disconnect between being the "great and powerful dragon" and actually becoming this tiny, ridiculous creature.
Hatori's romantic life has left him scarred. He fell for Kana, his office assistant, but when he asked Akito for permission to marry her, things went horribly wrong. Akito threw a pot at him, nearly blinding him in one eye. Kana blamed herself entirely for the incident and spiraled into depression and guilt so severe that Hatori had to erase her memories just to free her from the pain. It's one of those traumas that clearly shaped who he is.
Despite his stern demeanor, people who get to know him realize he's genuinely kind. He's notably tall like Shigure and Ayame, and there's a gentleness underneath all that professional distance.
