Ren Souma is Akito's mother and exists only in the manga. She started out as a maid in the Souma household before catching the eye of Akira, the family's then-leader. What set her apart was actually paying attention to him—she noticed how lonely he really was and treated him like a person instead of just bowing to his authority. That's what won him over.
