Zodiac: Scorpio
Kagura is the main female protagonist of Gintama and a core member of the Yorozuya alongside Gintoki and Shinpachi. Her name means "god-entertainment."
Despite her cute appearance and Chinese-style outfit, she's actually Yato—one of the strongest and most vicious alien races. The Yato have transparent skin that burns easily in sunlight, which is why she's never without her purple parasol. That parasol isn't just practical; it's also a weapon. Hers is bulletproof and fires bullets from the tip, standard issue for her clan.
Her Yato heritage gives her incredible abilities. She's absurdly strong—strong enough to stop a speeding motor-scooter with one hand—and ridiculously fast. She can catch multiple bullets between her teeth and fingers, flips through the air during fights, and heals from serious injuries almost overnight. The downside? She can't always control her strength, which is why most of her pets have ended up dead (Sadaharu, her 27th pet, being the lucky exception).
She's also unnaturally flexible and has an appetite that's genuinely alarming—she can demolish massive amounts of food in seconds. Her tastes are surprisingly basic though: sukonbu, rice, and eggs are her go-to favorites.
Kagura came to Earth to make money for her family. Her father, Umibouzu, is a well-known alien hunter; her mother is dead; and her older brother Kamui went missing and now runs with the space pirates Harusame. She initially worked for a gang until they told her to kill someone and she bolted. Gintoki literally ran her down with his scooter, and after they helped her escape the gang, she basically strong-armed her way into a job at the Yorozuya. She now lives in Gintoki's closet, Doraemon-style.
Her relationship with Gintoki reads like an oddball sibling dynamic. She's picked up all his worst habits—swearing, nose-picking, petty scheming—and constantly quotes his bad advice with "Gin-chan says." She's fiercely protective of him, too. Even though they fight constantly, she won't tolerate anyone else messing with him, and she trusts his abilities completely. With Shinpachi, she shares genuine sibling affection beneath the teasing; she respects his sister Tae deeply and calls her "Anego."
Kagura's a tomboy through and through. She crashes neighborhood games with the local kids without hesitation, doesn't care about looking or acting ladylike, and is unapologetically crude. She'll burp, spit, scratch herself, puke, and throw tantrums when she loses. In fact, she's apparently the first and only Weekly Shonen Jump heroine to vomit on-screen, and she's done it multiple times since. She's also bizarrely calm during tense situations—she once slept through an entire car chase.
She and Okita, the Shinsengumi captain, have a rivalry thing going. She seems to genuinely dislike him, though there's been some ambiguity about whether he actually likes her.
In the last character popularity poll, she placed 6th.
