Ichigo was your average junior high student minding her own business on a date with her crush, Aoyama Masaya, when her life got turned upside down. Her DNA got mysteriously fused with that of an Iriomote Wildcat, making her the reluctant leader of Tokyo Mew Mew—a group of girls with similar animal DNA spliced into them. Now she and the other Mews have to fight off Chimera Animas (aliens created by the alien leader Deep Blue) and save the world. At first, Ichigo wants nothing to do with any of it, preferring to just hang out with Masaya, but she eventually accepts her role once she understands what being a Mew actually means and how important the mission is.
Personality-wise, Ichigo hits the typical magical girl beats: she's sweet and caring, gets shy and flustered around Masaya, and tends to miss things that sharper people pick up on. She gets hyperactive when angry or excited, and her temper flares whenever someone she cares about gets hurt. She hates being objectified—something that came up with Kishu—and gets dreamy around her crush, often putting their relationship ahead of world-saving. That said, she's genuinely friendly and willing to give people second chances.
As for her Mew powers, she was injected with Iriomote Wildcat DNA, though she mostly ended up with regular housecat traits instead. The transformation clicked when she remembered a dream of a cat jumping into her body during the injection.
Transformation: Mew Mew Strawberry, Metamorphosis!
Attacks: Ribbon Strawberry Check! (early episodes); Ribbon Strawberry Surprise! (later episodes); Ribbon Aqua Drops! (occasional)
In the English dub (Mew Mew Power), she's called Zoey Hanson, and the Italian version named her Strawberry Momomiya.
