Masha is a cute little robot built by Ryou Shirogane to sniff out Chimera Anima and Mew Aqua. Originally just a model called R2000, Ichigo renamed her Masha after her crush Masaya—and the name stuck. Masha doesn't mind; she actually seems to enjoy hanging around Ichigo.
Her main job is pretty straightforward: when the Mew Mews take down a Chimera Anima, Masha eats the jellyfish-like parasites that spill out of whatever host was infected. She can also absorb Mew Aqua that the team finds and transform into the Mew Aqua Rod, which powers up their Ribbon Aqua Drops healing attack.
Communication-wise, Masha is limited. She mostly just says "pi" and "tweet," though she occasionally strings together actual words. Her most impressive moment comes in Tokyo Mew Mew a la Mode when she manages "Masha is going with Ichigo!"—fans often note this as a rare flex for her vocabulary.
Interestingly, Masha appeared in creator Mia Ikumi's original short story Tokyo Black Cat Girl, which eventually evolved into Tokyo Mew Mew. The character barely resembles her later self though: in that version, Masha is an intergalactic police officer who teams up with Princess Azumi to fight parasitic aliens called the Baku. She could actually talk, change into a cell phone mascot disguise, and handle combat on her own.
In the anime, Masha's speech capabilities are bumped up slightly—she can manage short sentences and actively tries to help during fights. The original Japanese voice is Junko Noda, while the English dub Mew Mew Power renamed her Mini-Mew and gave her to Tom Wayland.
