Hyakunosuke Ogata is a former Superior Private of the 7th Division who started out with Hijikata's group before eventually joining Sugimoto's crew—though his actual motivations stayed mysterious for quite a while. He's the son of a major general in the 7th Division and happens to be an exceptional sniper. His favorite food is monkfish stew.
As a person, Ogata is brutally cold-blooded and largely trusts only himself. He kills without hesitation and feels nothing afterward, qualities he openly acknowledges as essential for a sniper. He won't panic in combat, but he's smart enough to bail if the odds turn against him rather than throw himself at a losing fight. Despite his emotional flatness, he's surprisingly touchy about being questioned—he has his own code of pride. He genuinely believes everyone should be as ruthless and self-reliant as he is, or frankly, shouldn't exist at all. On the surface he comes across as polite and composed, which makes him all the more effective at manipulating people when he wants to.
