Not much is public about his early life, but what matters is that when Ryonan's coach tried to recruit him, he chose Shohoku instead, largely because of his respect for Coach Anzai.
He's got a rough reputation. He's been in plenty of fights and spent time in the hospital after beating up Mitsui, though he paid the price for it. Initially he even clashed with Sakuragi, mistaking him for Ayako's boyfriend, but they eventually bonded over their shared romantic frustrations and became solid friends. Despite his short temper and sensitivity about his height—he's the shortest guy on the court—Miyagi's personality softens around Ayako. He's tried dating other girls to move on, but it never stuck.
On the court, his height is deceptive. Miyagi has the fastest footwork of any player in the series, making him a nightmare for opposing defenses. He's got incredible ball-handling, vision, and the ability to thread no-look passes to open teammates. Coach Anzai credits his keen court awareness and pure speed as his greatest assets. Beyond scoring and steals, Miyagi reads the game like a strategist—he becomes team captain after Akagi graduates. He's also apparently a competent street fighter with a solid flying kick, according to Mitsui.
One rough patch: during the Toyotama match, he let his temper get the best of him and nearly lost control against their point guard, but he regrouped in the second half and showed what he's capable of.
