Synopsis

Rozen was a legendary dollmaker who created several unique dolls throughout his life. What made them special wasn't craftsmanship or materials—it was the Rosa Mystica, a precious gem embedded in each doll that brought them to life. These dolls, known as Rozen Maidens, exist for one purpose: to compete against each other in the Alice Game. The winner becomes Alice, the perfect girl, and earns the chance to meet their creator. Jun Sakurada is a middle school shut-in whose life changes when one of these dolls shows up at his doorstep. He winds her up with the spring she provides, and she introduces herself as Shinku, the fifth Rozen Maiden. She's obnoxiously haughty, but when another doll attacks, they're forced to work together. Shinku asks Jun to become her medium—basically, he lets her drain his life force to power herself up in combat. After that first fight, more Rozen Maidens move into Jun's house. But how can there be any peace when these dolls are literally designed to fight each other to the death?
