Rozen Maiden (2008)
In the original Rozen Maiden timeline, shut-in Jun Sakurada wound up the sentient doll Shinku and got pulled into the Alice Game—a deadly contest between magical dolls. But what if he'd never picked her up? In this alternate universe, Jun's an adult college student, but he's still dealing with the emotional fallout of being a shut-in. While working at a bookstore, he stumbles across a strange weekly series called "How to Make a Girl" that comes with a spring for winding a doll. That night, the next volume shows up in his apartment along with a case and parts for assembling Shinku, the fifth Rozen Maiden. Then the books just stop coming. A letter arrives explaining the series got cancelled, but there's a catch—he can find the remaining parts in something called the N-Field. Things get weirder when Jun starts receiving emails from his younger self, begging him to help defeat Kirakishou, the seventh doll, who apparently poses a serious threat. With an incomplete doll in hand and no idea what he's walking into, Jun enters the N-Field anyway.
