Synopsis

Yuusuke Urameshi is a fourteen-year-old delinquent who spends most of his time ditching school and getting into fights. He's constantly at odds with Kuwabara, regularly mocks his childhood friend Keiko, and carries the weight of having an alcoholic mother. Everything changes when he impulsively pushes a kid out of the path of an oncoming car—and gets hit himself. Dead, but not quite gone, Yuusuke gets a chance to see how his death affects the people around him. Watching his mother, Keiko, and even Kuwabara fall apart hits him hard. The Spirit World takes notice of his selfless act and offers him a deal: he can come back to life. There's a catch, though. Koenma, the ruler's son, wants to put Yuusuke to work as a "Spirit Detective," investigating supernatural cases that keep getting weirder and more dangerous. Along the way, he teams up with demons like the charming Kurama and the abrasive Hiei. As Yuusuke gets stronger and his bonds with his new allies deepen, a darker threat emerges from the Underworld—one that forces him and his friends to protect the normal world he used to take for granted.
