Donten ni Warau Gaiden
During Japan's Meiji Era, legend says a massive serpent spirit called the Orochi emerges every 300 years to destroy everything in its path. The government created Yamainu, an elite combat unit, specifically to hunt it down when it returns. But nowadays, things are messier—a secret government branch has started experimenting on people using Orochi cells, and Yamainu's leader Sousei Abeno is caught up in it. Everything blows up when brothers Soramaru and Chuutarou find several dying escapees from these experiments. Soramaru runs into Ageha, a rogue doctor, and Tora, one of the test subjects who gained incredible powers from compatible Orochi cells and used them to kill the researchers running the program. Despite what they've done, Soramaru chooses to help them—he's furious about how the government's been abusing Orochi cells to make new weapons. Now Soramaru and Sousei are on opposite sides of an ugly question: is it worth experimenting on people and weaponizing Orochi cells? They might end up having to settle it with a fight, but Soramaru's got a problem—he's never actually beaten Yamainu's captain before.
