Jun Maeda is one of the founding members of Key and essentially the creative backbone of the studio—he's written and composed music for nearly all of their major visual novels. His work spans some of the most beloved titles in the genre: he handled the Mai and Makoto routes in Kanon, created Air and Clannad (including After Story), and composed for Angel Beats!, Little Busters! and its sequel Refrain, Tomoyo After, and Charlotte. Fans often credit him with a particular talent for emotionally heavy storytelling mixed with compelling character arcs.

Before Key, Maeda worked at Tactics, where he contributed to Moon and One: Kagayaku Kisetsu e—early projects that showed his knack for narrative-driven games.

More recently, in February 2022, he took on multiple roles for Heaven Burns Red, working as writer, scenario designer, composer, and lyricist. The game's central theme centers on "the ultimate sadness," which feels pretty on-brand for someone known for weaving dramatic, bittersweet narratives throughout his career.
