"Natsuki Takaya" is a pen name—her real name isn't public.
Takaya's been left-handed since birth and knew she wanted to make manga from first grade, when her sister got into drawing and inspired her. She debuted professionally in September 1992 with "Born Free" in Hana to Yume Planet Zōkan, and has been a regular contributor to Hana to Yume magazine ever since.
She's best known for Fruits Basket, the shōjo manga that won the Kodansha Manga Award in 2001. The series became a massive hit and remains her most celebrated work.
