Yoshihisa Hirano is a composer who studied at Juilliard School starting in 1992, then went on to Eastman School of Music. Early in his career, he won first prize in Japan's Axia Tape Competition during high school and later took the New York prize for New Music for Young Ensembles.
His work spans concert and dance pieces, film scores, radio compositions, and everything from classical to pop to contemporary music. In more recent years, anime soundtracks have become a significant part of his output. He's also created music for Tokyo DisneySea's countdown celebrations in 2002 and 2004.
Beyond solo work, Hirano collaborates with pianist Masako Hosoda under the unit name Bleu, which has released two albums together. He's additionally done orchestration and arrangement work on several Ali Project albums.
