Synopsis

Coco's always been obsessed with magic and witches, even though they go to crazy lengths to keep their craft secret. So when she spots an opportunity to peek at what the witch Qifrey is doing, she jumps at it—and discovers her favorite childhood picture book is actually a magic grimoire in disguise. Naturally, she immediately starts casting spells from it. One spell goes catastrophically wrong and nearly destroys her house, but Qifrey shows up just in time to save her. He decides to take her on as an apprentice, partly because he sees potential in her, but mainly because she might be the breakthrough he needs to find the Brimmed Caps—a cult of rogue magicians who mess with forbidden transformation magic and smuggle magical items to regular people. Before Coco and Qifrey can actually take them on though, she's got a lot of training ahead of her. Plus she'll need to figure out how to work with Qifrey's other apprentices.
