Akito runs the Souma clan with an iron fist, though his grip is literally weakened by constant illness. He's perpetually frail, running fevers and rarely leaving the main house except to summon Zodiac members like Yuki and Shigure for visits. Nobody in the family challenges his authority—his reputation as a cruel, manipulative leader has left emotional and physical scars across the clan.
Part of his curse apparently limits his lifespan to thirty years. Rather than accept this, Akito's become obsessed with the idea of trapping all the Zodiac members in the compound permanently, keeping them in an endless "banquet" where he can control every aspect of their lives. He's not subtle about it either, literally calling himself "the Master of their Souls."
His hatred of Kyou, the Cat of the Zodiac, borders on pathological—he's convinced Kyou deserves lifelong isolation. But Tooru Honda is who he really despises, mainly because everyone else loves and protects her. The fact that people genuinely care about her drives him crazy.
