At the tail end of the 1600s, samurai Toyohisa Shimazu is caught in a brutal clash with the Tokugawa clan, desperately buying time so his people can escape. He manages to hold them off alone—but takes fatal wounds doing it. As he stumbles away from the carnage, he suddenly finds himself in a strange white corridor and gets shoved through a door. He wakes up in a completely different world. It turns out he's not alone. Other legendary warriors from history are stuck here too—people called Drifters, all of them dead in their own time but somehow alive in this place. Toyohisa and the other Drifters decide to use everything they know from their past lives to conquer this new empire and fight back against a mysterious evil force that's bent on wiping out humanity.
