Synopsis

Yato is a minor delivery god with basically no followers, so he takes on random odd jobs for just five yen each—trying to scrape together enough money to afford his own shrine someday. Things get worse when his Shinki, a weapon partner who materializes from his blood, quits because she's sick of being homeless with him. Now weaponless, Yato desperately needs to find a replacement. While putting up missing cat posters, Yato spots the actual cat and chases it straight into traffic. A girl named Hiyori Iki pushes him out of the way to save him, but gets hit herself. She wakes up in the hospital to discover her soul has literally come loose from her body. Feeling responsible, Yato agrees to fix her—naturally for five yen. To do that though, he needs a new Shinki, and he ends up recruiting Yukine, a stubborn spirit. The story follows Hiyori as she navigates existing between the human and supernatural worlds, and Yato's struggle to finally get a real place to belong.
