Matt Yang King is best known as the creator, writer, and director of The World of Steam, a Twilight Zone-style web series set in a steampunk universe. He's also a CAPE/Hollywood Foreign Press Young Screenwriters Award winner.
King grew up in New York City with a solid foundation in the arts—he started violin at five and picked up Aikido at eight, both of which stuck with him long-term. That combination of music and martial arts naturally fed into his love of performance, which eventually landed him at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts.
After leaving Tisch, King took an unconventional detour. He stepped away from acting to pursue Zen Buddhism, spending time sweeping mats in a dojo, then pivoted again to work as a broker's assistant on Wall Street. A series of fortunate coincidences somehow led him to a role in the Broadway musical Titanic, where he ended up touring across 38 states over 486 shows before eventually settling in Los Angeles.
