Douglas Forsythe Rye
Born November 6, 1950 in Westchester, New York
Douglas Rye is a voice actor based in Los Angeles, best known for narration work with major brands and networks including Bank of America, Discovery Channel, The Learning Channel, NBC, The Playboy Channel, Qwest, Carl's Jr., and DaimlerChrysler.
Acting came early for him. At Lawrenceville School, he landed a summer production role that Christopher Reeve didn't get—a win he's probably still proud of. He went on to study at New York University, where his classmates included future TV and film names like Olympia Dukakis, Lloyd Richards, Michael McKean, and Christopher Guest. He also worked alongside Jason Robards III and singer-songwriter Melissa Manchester during that time.
But Rye's career extends well beyond the recording booth. He spent nine years touring with the Grateful Dead as part of their crew and was a stagehand at Woodstock in 1969. He's opened for Carlos Santana and worked behind the scenes for some of rock and pop's biggest acts—The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, The Commodores, The Eagles, The Oak Ridge Boys, and jazz legend Mel Tormé, among others.
