Kangaskhan is a large, bipedal marsupial Pokémon that basically looks like a kangaroo. It's got brown skin with raised patches, a cream-colored belly, and big cream ears. Its face is narrow with red eyes, a short snout, and a couple of fangs poking out from the back of its upper jaw. There's a thick black plate on top of its head, shoulder growths that look kind of like epaulettes, and a row of spikes running down its back. It has three clawed digits on each hand and foot, a thick tail, and—most notably—a pouch on its belly where a baby Kangaskhan hangs out. The baby's completely different: light purple, smooth-skinned, and way smaller. The whole species is female-only, with no males in existence.
Kangaskhan is basically the overprotective parent Pokémon. It's incredibly fast even while carrying its baby around, and the little one rarely leaves the pouch until it hits three years old. To avoid accidentally crushing the baby, the mother sleeps standing up. If she decides an area is safe, she'll let her young play, but anything she perceives as a threat gets attacked viciously. Even while asleep, she'll defend the baby in her pouch. When she wants to rest while the baby's awake, she'll lie down and let it sit on her back instead. Kangaskhan are also known to raise other Pokémon species alongside their own young, and there are documented cases of childless mothers raising abandoned human children. No matter how badly hurt she gets, the mother won't stop fighting until her baby is safe. She uses quick jabs to intimidate enemies. The species was nearly hunted to extinction but can still be found in savannahs and grasslands today.
Mega Evolution
Kangaskhan can Mega Evolve into Mega Kangaskhan. The mother stays basically the same, but the baby temporarily grows and develops new features—raised patches on its knees like its mom has, aligned patches across its waist with a bigger one on its belly, and small spiky growths under its ears. The baby becomes feisty and competitive, hating to lose and boldly challenging opponents to protect its mother. The mother's joy at seeing her child grow stronger fuels the Mega Evolution's extra power. Still, she worries about the baby's future since fighting is all it knows. There's also a bittersweet sadness in her—a reminder that one day her child will leave. Despite all that, mother and child are known for pulling off excellent teamwork in battle.
