Ivan started life in Russia as a sickly infant—his father Gamo, a brilliant but increasingly unstable brain surgeon, became obsessed with curing him. Instead of accepting his son's condition, Gamo subjected Ivan to brutal brain enhancement procedures that pushed his mental capacity far beyond any normal human, despite desperate resistance from Ivan's mother Erika. Things turned tragic when Gamo killed Erika; he'd already crossed the line from concerned parent to something far worse.
After Gamo's downfall, Ivan ended up in the hands of Black Ghost, the shadowy organization that would reshape his life entirely. They made him their first 00-Cyborg, the prototype for an entire program of artificially enhanced operatives. The enhancements gave Ivan formidable psychic abilities—telepathy, telekinesis, and ESP—making him potentially the most powerful member of the group.
The catch? His body is still that of an infant, and the sheer mental strain sometimes knocks him unconscious at the worst possible moments. It's a constant limitation he has to live with, no matter how brilliant his mind becomes.
Ivan and several other early 00-Cyborgs were put into cryogenic storage while Black Ghost waited for technology to advance further. Among his peers, Ivan naturally emerged as a leader figure, directing the other cyborgs through whatever comes next.
