Nobuyo Ooyama (山下羨代) is best known for voicing Doraemon, the beloved robot cat from the future. She held the role across the entire second TV series run from 1979 to 2005—a 26-year tenure that basically defined the character for multiple generations. Beyond the weekly show, she lent her voice to countless Doraemon movies and TV specials throughout those decades. While Doraemon was her signature role, she also took on various other anime voice work over her long career.
In May 2015, her husband, actor Keisuke Sagawa, revealed that Ooyama had been diagnosed with dementia related to Alzheimer's disease. She'd actually started experiencing symptoms back around 2008, years before the public announcement.
