Golem is a boulder-like Pokémon with a tortoise-inspired design—basically a spherical, plated shell with a stubby head and limbs poking out. The whole thing is covered in hard green rocks; its body is so tough that dynamite can't even scratch it. Its head is light brown with a flat snout, two pointed teeth on the lower jaw, and red eyes, while its arms and legs (each with claws) are similarly colored.
Every year, Golem sheds its skin and grows larger. The discarded shell hardens immediately when exposed to air, then crumbles back into soil. Farmers actually collect these shells and spread them across fields because they promote crop growth. As Golem ages, though, it stops shedding and moss starts growing over it. Interestingly, despite looking completely solid, Golem's shell is actually hollow inside.
What makes Golem notable is its rolling ability. It can tuck its head and limbs inside its shell and roll at crazy speeds, though it goes blind in the process—which means it'll crash into or run over whatever's in its path. In mountainous areas where Golem live, people dig grooves into hillsides to redirect them away from homes downhill. The Pokémon is rare in the wild but shows up in mountain regions, and it's got a wild trick where it can detonate itself to launch between peaks. There's also a quirky detail from Pokémon Sleep: Golem sometimes sleeps upside down, rocking itself into a deep slumber like it's in a cradle. Problem is, a sleeping Golem might roll right into you, so it's best to keep your distance.
Alolan Form
Alola's version of Golem is pretty different. It's got shorter forearms with only two claws and similarly reduced foot claws. Iron sand clings to its face, creating what looks like a full beard, mustache, and eyebrows. Two large black rocks jut from its back with a smaller one between them, shaped like a cannon with golden dots along the inner edges.
This cannon design prevents it from rolling into a ball like the original, which fits its grumpy, stubborn personality. Anger it and you'll hear a thunderous roar while electricity discharges across its body. The rock launcher works through magnetism—it fires the small rock with an electrical charge that can stun or knock out even on a glancing hit. If rocks aren't available, it'll just fire nearby Geodude instead. Alolan Golem can be found in Blueberry Academy's Canyon Biome, where Alola's island ecosystem is recreated.
Evolution
Golem is the final evolution in its line, evolving from Graveler. Alolan Golem is Rock/Electric type and evolves from Alolan Graveler, completing the Alolan Geodude line.
