Gyarados
Gyarados is a long, serpentine water-dragon Pokémon with a blue body, yellow belly, and yellow spots running down each side. Its most striking feature is that huge gaping mouth lined with four pointed teeth and yellow lips. It has a pair of white barbels (blue on males, white on females), small red eyes, and a distinctive three-pointed dark blue crest on its head. Four white spiky dorsal fins line its back, with the tail fin mirroring the crest's structure.
Temperament and Abilities
Here's the thing about Gyarados: evolution fundamentally rewires its brain, and not for the better. Its fangs can crush stone and its scales are harder than steel, but what really makes it infamous is the rage. Gyarados has been feared since ancient times for its violent nature and destructive impulses—some regions literally call it the "deity of destruction." It'll tear through an entire area and keep going for a month straight if it feels like it, storm or no storm. The rampage doesn't stop until everything around it is gone. There are old tales of human settlements being wiped out the moment a Gyarados showed up.
It lives in both fresh and salt water, and while it's rarely spotted in the wild, it can leap huge distances—often several times its own body length—both in and out of water. Hyper Beam is the move most associated with Gyarados, and for good reason: it's powerful enough to obliterate whatever it hits.
Mega Gyarados
When Gyarados Mega Evolves, it becomes bulkier and even more unhinged. Its cheeks fins lengthen with a yellow tint, the crest turns black and larger, and its barbels get seriously long. A big spike juts down from under its chin, the underbelly goes black with red edges, and those yellow spots transform into raised red scales that help it rocket through water. Two large yellow fins with blue spines sprout from the back, and the regular dorsal fins get replaced by two rows of blue spikes. Near the tail, there are now four yellowish spiky fins.
The stress of Mega Evolution cranks its destructiveness up even further—basically, everything shuts down except the drive to incinerate anything in sight. That said, if it genuinely trusts its Trainer, it'll listen. Mega Gyarados can launch at Mach Speed by blasting water from its sides, making it powerful enough to split ships in half. It's tied with Unbound as the tallest Dark-type Pokémon.
