Luis Espinosa Rosique was a Barcelona-born voice actor and director born May 12, 1950. He studied at Institut del Teatre and became a major figure in Spanish dubbing, though his career came to an abrupt end after he was blacklisted by major studios for protesting poor working conditions on public transport.
He's best known for dubbing Sheriff Dwight Riley across the first three Scream films, Steve in E.T., and Captain Arthur Hastings in the Poirot series—which he also directed and adapted. He had an even bigger hand in Detective Conan, where he voiced Kogoro Mouri for the first 76 episodes while simultaneously directing, adapting, and playing several supporting roles himself.
Espinosa Rosique retired in 2010, having been effectively shut out of the industry. He died on May 10, 2019, from complications of bladder cancer that had metastasized to his bones and thyroid, with a blood clot in his left leg developing as a side effect of chemotherapy.
