Venusaur is a squat, quadrupedal amphibian with bumpy blue-green skin, small circular red eyes, and a short blunt snout. Its wide mouth has two pointed teeth on top and four on the bottom. Small pointed ears with reddish-pink insides sit atop its head, and each foot has three clawed toes. The bud it carried as Ivysaur has fully bloomed into a large pink flower with white spots, supported by a thick brown trunk surrounded by green fronds. Female Venusaur are distinguishable by a visible gynoecium at the flower's center.
The flower is basically a solar panel. Venusaur uses it to absorb sunlight and convert it into energy, which makes the flower glow more vibrantly. The plant releases a soothing scent that calms nearby Pokémon and emotions in general—this smell gets noticeably stronger after rain. Venusaur hits peak power during summer when there's maximum sunlight available. It apparently continues releasing this calming fragrance even while sleeping, and has been observed sleeping in four different styles: Sunbathing Sleep, Sturdy Sleep, Vines-Out Sleep, and Atop-Belly Sleep.
In the anime, a wild Venusaur showed the ability to manipulate nature itself, sprouting multiple vines and actually presiding over evolution ceremonies for Bulbasaur and Ivysaur. It's rare to find one in the wild, though they do inhabit grasslands.
Forms
Venusaur has two alternate forms: Mega Venusaur and Gigantamax Venusaur.
Mega Venusaur
When Mega Evolved, the back flower becomes even more pronounced while two smaller pink flowers bloom—one on the forehead, one on the rear. Its legs and back bulk up to handle the extra weight. Additional leafy growths with woody stems sprout around the main flower, supported by vines, along with dark markings below the forehead flower.
Gigantamax Venusaur
In its Gigantamax form, Venusaur swells up and the flower explodes outward, covering most of its body. The petals are thick and springy enough to act as a shield. Its eyes shift to light green sclerae with orange irises, more foliage erupts from beneath the flower, and the supporting trunk gets shorter. Light green markings appear across its belly.
Gigantamax Venusaur swings thick vines powerful enough to demolish a 10-story building. Its flower spreads so much pollen it looks like a volcanic eruption—inhaling it causes uncontrollable sneezing, and heavy exposure can knock you out. On the bright side, the pollen actually promotes plant growth wherever it lands.
Evolution
Venusaur is the final evolution in its line.
