Alfredo Leal is a Mexican voice actor, writer, and teacher who got into dubbing back in 1996 purely out of necessity—he needed to help support his family. What started as a side gig eventually opened up a deeper interest in music, painting, and literature. He went on to study French Literature at UNAM, earning both a bachelor's and master's degree in the field.
Since 2007, he's been publishing regularly across multiple genres: novels, short stories, essays, and plays. His novel "La vida escondida" made enough of an impression to land on journalist Sergio González Rodríguez's list of Mexico's best books of 2016, which ran in Reforma newspaper.
By 2011, Leal felt ready to step away from dubbing entirely to focus on writing. But financial pressures brought him back in 2018—he's open about calling himself a "cultural proletarian"—and he announced his return by posting about his work on Sailor Moon Crystal. Since then, he's been juggling dubbing, teaching, and literary translation while finishing a doctorate in Latin American Studies at UNAM. He's taught at UNAM, Ibero Puebla, and the CIW. His comeback was solidified in 2020 when he voiced Ryuka/Luca in Dragon Quest: Your Story.
He's the brother of Lupita Leal and Miguel Ángel Leal.
