Inoue Makio was a veteran voice actor best known for two iconic roles that defined much of his career: Captain Harlock, which he voiced from 1978 through the '80s and '90s until Yamadera Kouichi took over in 1998, and Ishikawa Goemon XIII from Lupin III, a part he held from 1977 until his death (succeeding Ootsuka Chikao, who originated the role in '71–'72).
He started voice acting in the '60s with small parts in Astroboy and became the go-to actor for deep-voiced, serious male characters throughout the following decade. By the later stages of his career, he was selective about new work, though he did pop up in Samurai Champloo as Mariya Enshirou in episodes 24–26.
Inoue died on November 29, 2019 at age 80, just a day before what would have been his 79th birthday. The cause was worsening angina.
