Adam's spent the last two decades working as an actor and movement specialist across New York City, the broader US, and internationally. He holds a B.A. from UC Berkeley and an M.F.A. from the University of Washington.
His training runs deep. He studied extensively with Steve Pearson and Robyn Hunt of the Pacific Performance Project/east—both of whom trained under Tadashi Suzuki at Toga-Mura for about 15 years before bringing their "Physical Approaches to Performance" back to the States. Beyond that, he's learned from a genuinely impressive roster of movement artists and performers: Seydulla Molkakhanov and Boris Gafurov (Ilkhom Theatre, Uzbekistan), Le Vu Long (Together Higher, Vietnam), Sergei Ostrenko (Ukraine), and Paata and Irina Tsikurishvili of Synetic Theater in DC.
He's worked with major regional and institutional theaters—The Public Theater, Lincoln Center Directors Lab, Seattle Rep, Indiana Repertory Theatre, The Juilliard School, and dozens of opera companies and smaller ensembles across the country. He's also trained with the Ilkhom Theatre of Mark Weil directly.
As a movement consultant, Adam helps shape and build ensemble work for opera, theater, and film projects, developing movement vocabularies tailored to each production. He's best known for co-founding and directing the Dynamic Presence Project, which focuses on revitalizing movement theatre and physical storytelling.
Teaching's been a significant part of his career. He's taught at Indiana University, Cal State Fresno, and the University of Washington, with master classes at schools including Illinois State, University of Nebraska at Omaha, and Earlham College.
He's a trained stuntman and Certified Teacher with the Society of American Fight Directors. He's choreographed violence for over 100 stage and film productions. He's also a member of Actors Equity Association and serves as Treasurer for the Association of Theatre Movement Educators.
