Joseph M. Romersa is an American songwriter, drummer, multi-instrumentalist, director, producer, sound engineer, and vocalist.
Most people know him from his work on the Silent Hill video game soundtracks, though others remember him from his time in Soy Cowboy—a group that defies easy categorization beyond the loosely fitting label of "Thai-Western" band.
Over a sprawling career, Joe has collaborated with an impressive roster of musicians. He won a Grammy as recording engineer and drummer on John Prine's 1991 album The Missing Years, which took home Best Contemporary Folk Album. Beyond Prine, his credits include work with Carlene Carter, eden ahbez, Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne, Tom Petty, Laurence Juber, Bonnie Raitt, Bette Midler, David Lindley, Bruce Springsteen, Dave Edmunds, and Bob Dylan—the last of whom has provided him with several good stories over the years. He's also worked with everyone from The Coasters and Big Mama Thornton to more contemporary acts like Peaches and Egyptian Lover. An Electronic Music Award from 1973 sits among his accolades. On top of all this, he's done voice-over work for various Japanese anime projects.
These days, Joe lives in California and serves as a sound mentor at the International Academy of Film & Television L.A.
