Toru Furuya is a veteran voice actor born July 31, 1953 in Yokohama, Kanagawa. He got his start as a child performer in the Himawari Theatre Group before settling into a long career in voice acting, currently represented by Aoni Production. He was close friends with fellow seiyuu Hirotaka Suzuoki until Suzuoki's death.
Furuya's resume is basically a who's who of anime classics. He's best known for voicing Amuro Ray in Mobile Suit Gundam, Pegasus Seiya in Saint Seiya, Yamcha in Dragon Ball, and Mamoru Chiba/Tuxedo Mask in Sailor Moon. Beyond those heavy hitters, he's also the voice of Hyouma Hoshi from Kyojin no Hoshi and Kyosuke Kasuga in Kimagure Orange Road. He even credited himself under the pseudonym Noboru Sougetsu for his role as Ribbons Almark in Mobile Suit Gundam 00.
