A prolific voice actress best known for her work across countless anime series. She's frequently collaborated with Toyoguchi Megumi, often voicing characters on the same teams, and has worked with Hoshi Soichiro in projects where their characters had meaningful interactions.
Rie's become something of a fan favorite for her roles in Gothic Lolita-styled characters—most notably Suigintou from Rozen Maiden, a character she's openly admitted to loving and has even cosplayed as herself. She also voiced Chi from Chobits, Freya from the same series, and Towa-chan from DN Angel, all with that same aesthetic. There's a fun bit of meta involved: in Hanaukyo Maid Tai La Verite, her character Mariel actually cosplays as Chi—also voiced by Rie.
She's instantly recognizable in public appearances for her signature V-sign pose. Her fan club goes by Café de Rie, and she's a member of Steel Angels, a singing trio alongside Atsuko Enomoto and Masayo Kurata that handled the opening and ending themes for Steel Angel Kurumi. Interestingly, despite her genuine singing talent, she voiced the hilariously tone-deaf Yomi in Azumanga Daioh.
Was married to fellow voice actor Kouichi Yamadera from 2012 until August 3, 2018.
More recently, she joined the music project Uz:ME with Patrik Leonheart and Simon Andante, releasing their first single "SEARCHLIGHT" in February 2022.
